Faun

Little Faun
after 1900, oil, canvas
49 x 33 cm, private collection

Little Faun [not shown in the exhibition] was created over 10 years before Faun was painted. The first one is kept in the realistic convention. An important role is played by the light effects (the reflections of sun rays on the surface of water) and subtle colour solutions. Faun is a formal reinterpretation of Little Faun. The artist took up the same theme but treated it differently, simplifying the form, and limiting the play of light and colour for the sake of synthesis.
